Databricks Apps launches into public preview
Databricks has launched a public preview of its Databricks Apps tool, which is designed to allow users to quickly and securely build data and AI applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. The company says the solution enables developers to build apps natively on the platform using frameworks such as Dash, Shiny, Gradio, Streamlit and Flask.
Developers are able to create data applications for non-technical users by using code instead of SQL, which can allow specific business units to create apps tailored to their unique needs. For example, marketing teams can leverage the tool to create customised dashboards that visualise campaign performance metrics.
Once built, apps are deployed and fully managed directly in the Databricks platform, which eliminates the need to configure and manage infrastructure. This also ensures data only leaves the Databricks environment if users choose to share it.
Databricks Country Manager for ANZ Adam Beavis said the solution will help organisations harness the full potential of their data and AI investments.
“Australian and New Zealand organisations are seeking ways to extract more value from their data assets. However, building and deploying internal data applications has traditionally been a complex and time-consuming process,” he said. “Developers need to spend time on infrastructure management instead of focusing on app development. Data governance and compliance require manual implementation of access controls. Additionally, app sharing and permissions are managed separately from other data assets, creating a disjointed governance experience.”
