Queensland hosts robotics conference

The International Conference on Robotics and Automation has commenced in Brisbane.

More than 2500 delegates from around the globe are attending the event.

“This event is a great example of how the Palaszczuk government is bringing together our focus on innovation and tourism to provide returns for two of Queensland’s most important sectors,” said Innovation and Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones.

“It is the first time this conference has been held in Australia and having Brisbane host this cutting-edge event enhances our growing reputation as an innovation powerhouse.

“It follows last week’s successful Myriad Festival, Australia’s leading tech and innovation festival, which attracted more than 5000 entrepreneurs and investors.

“Through our $518 million Advance Queensland initiative, we’re backing innovators to ensure Queensland is front and centre of the innovation sphere.

“We’re investing strategically to take advantage of opportunities in the robotics and automation sector to promote sustainable jobs growth in Queensland.”

Jones said Queensland was the perfect host for business events like ICRA 2018, where delegates can take advantage of the state’s great tourism offering while collaborating with local innovators and entrepreneurs.

“Being the first city in Australia to host the world’s peak robotics and automation conference is recognition of the fact that we’re leading the way when it comes to innovation. This is thanks to our record investment and the great work being done by local innovators and academics.

“The event also engages with the general public through a series of sessions designed to inspire Queenslanders and help them appreciate what robotics and automation advancements can do for their lives.

“The Queensland Government is a proud supporter of ICRA 2018 through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Business Events Acquisition and Leveraging Fund.”
