Tech named second most attractive industry

The technology sector has been named Australia’s second most attractive industry for employees in the latest Randstad Employer Brand Awards.

A survey of 7700 Australian employees found that technology was beat out only by aviation as the most attractive industry.

The awards also recognised Australia’s top 25 most attractive workplaces among Australia’s 150 largest employers, based on the perceptions of 7795 potential job seekers.

Qantas topped this year’s list in part due to its innovation with technology, as well as its financial health and strong reputation.

Qantas edged out last year’s winner, Virgin Australia, which fell to fourth place behind the Victorian Government and the ABC. The ABC’s ranking was also based in part on its technology innovation.

The survey also identified a disparity between the top considerations for employees and the benefits employers offer. Employees’ top three priorities are work-life balance, job security and a pleasant work atmosphere, whereas employers’ top priorities are financial stability, the latest technologies and job security.

“Work-life balance was identified as the most important expectation that Australians want. Unfortunately, employers aren’t always offering enough balance, which creates a gap between what employees are seeking and what employers are actually offering,” Randstad Australia and New Zealand CEO Frank Ribuot said.

“Companies that are able to recognise and bridge the gap will be able to attract and retain the best talent.”
