Teradata launches serverless analytics platform

Cloud database and analytics software company Teradata has launched its first serverless AI/machine learning engine, Teradata AI Unlimited, at the Microsoft Ignite conference.

AI Unlimited has been natively integrated into Microsoft Fabric and OneLake. The platform has been designed to allow data scientists, engineers and developers to explore new use cases for AI and machine learning using data at scale.

The platform has also been designed to complement Teradata’s VantageCloud cloud analytics and data platform by enabling prototypes developed under AI Unlimited to be smoothly transitioned into a production VantageCloud environment.

With AI Unlimited, users can access data from Microsoft’s Open Table Format service offering OneLake, or through open file formats such as Parquet and CSV.

AI Unlimited’s native integration with Python will enable data scientists and developers to call analytics functions, execute Python code and import Python models directly into the platform.

The solution is available in private preview through Azure Marketplace, and will be available within Microsoft Fabric from the second quarter of next year.

Teradata chief product officer Hillary Ashton said the platform has been designed to be a game changer for AI enablement.

“The ability to explore, experiment and operationalise new use cases for AI initiatives without risk or restraint — especially on a platform as powerful as Teradata’s — is a dream come true for data scientists, data engineers and developers,” she said.

“Teradata AI Unlimited makes this possible while also supporting the goal of enabling AI — driving massive enterprise value and breakthrough business results.”
