Vocus completes Perth iX data centre acquisition

Telecommunications connectivity wholesaler Vocus Communications has continued recent spending with the acquisition of Perth-based data centre business Perth iX.

Vocus paid an upfront consideration of $6.275m in cash with an additional performance earn out of up to $725,000 should the business exceed FY12 forecasts.

This follows Vocus’s recent acquisition of 59 km of dark fibre in Sydney and Melbourne, which the company said would allow it to "provide bundled metro fibre services with existing data centre and IP transit products".

The 536 m2 Perth iX facility has 86 customers, many of whom are carriers and ISPs.

Perth iX’s General Manager, Adam Gardner, will continue to lead the Perth team, which will be integrated into the Vocus technical and operational teams.

Vocus claims that after transaction costs, the acquisition will have negligible impact on FY11 earnings. However, the wholesaler expects Perth iX to contribute EBITDA of $1.5m in the FY12 year.
