Zendesk to increase Victorian workforce

Customer service software giant Zendesk has announced plans to expand its Melbourne-based product innovation team by hiring more than 70 new highly skilled engineers.

The new hires at Zendesk’s Asia Pacific Software Engineering Centre will focus on software development in the areas of big data, app marketplace design and integration, engineering support, and platform design.

The new hires will increase Zendesk’s Victorian workforce above 320.

Victorian Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula said that since the state government provided support for Zendesk establishing its Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Centre in 2015, it has grown to become the company’s largest AI, machine learning and automation engineering centre after San Francisco.

“Zendesk’s choice to expand its operations in Melbourne is an example of a tech leader recognising value in Victoria’s thriving tech and ICT ecosystem, which is on show this week through the Digital Innovation Festival,” he said.

The state government calculates that Victoria’s technology and ICT sector now employs nearly 138,000 people across around 19,300 businesses, which generate a combined $36.6 billion in annual revenue.

San Francisco-based Zendesk operates a cloud-based customer service platform that is used by more than 145,000 customers worldwide. The company supports this global business across 16 international offices.
