nbn upgrades address checker with more detail
nbn has updated the address checker function of its website to give Australians more clarity about when they will be able to sign up for a connection over the national network.
The address checker portal has been upgraded to show when connections are expected to be available for a given address, rather than when construction is expected to commence in the area.
In addition, nbn has now reinstated the technology choice section of the portal. Two months ago the company removed this detail, meaning using the portal no longer displayed which access technology is expected to be used in a given area. This information is now back.
But nbn Chief Customer Officer John Simon noted that the time frame and listed technology choice for a given address may not always be accurate.
“We have been working hard to provide as much clarity as possible on the rollout for the majority of Australians, but as is the nature of this business, people need to be prepared for change,” he said.
“It’s not until we are in the streets that we have a clear view of the technology available to individual homes so there are times where a different solution is determined to be better than that which was planned. The sheer size and complexity of the network build means there will always be a need for flexibility on our technology choice and service availability dates.”
nbn recently announced that it expects to be 50% complete with the nationwide rollout by the middle of the year, reach 9 million premises passed by mid-2018 and complete the rollout on schedule in 2020.
