BlackBerry announces mobile security platform
BlackBerry has unveiled a new mobile-native security platform designed for what the company is calling the Enterprise of Things — mobile-native and multi-device workplaces.
The new platform, BlackBerry Secure, is designed to serve as the key plank in the company’s transition away from hardware and towards a software focus.
BlackBerry Secure encompasses multiple security solutions, including some from BlackBerry’s prior acquisition targets Good Technology, WatchDox, AtHoc and Encription.
Companies can use the platform to secure communications for all messaging and file types. The platform involves components including the BlackBerry UEM multiplatform endpoint protection suite and the BlackBerry Dynamics container and development platform for mobile apps.
Also included are BlackBerry Workspaces — developed based on WatchDox technology, the BlackBerry 2FA two-factor authentication tool, the BlackBerry Enterprise Identity single sign-on system and an SDK to enable integration of the tools with other applications under a PaaS model.
From January, the company also plans to launch a portfolio of new business applications for a mobile-first work environment.
These will encompass tools to enable collaboration, control mobile access, share documents and other content, schedule and prioritise tasks and take notes.
“Businesses must be able to confidentially and reliably transmit sensitive data between endpoints to keep people, information and goods safe,” BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO John Chen said.
“BlackBerry is uniquely qualified to address this emerging market now because of our deep experience, industry leadership and ongoing product innovation that addresses future business needs.”
