NewSat signs 10-year contract with Middle Eastern telco

NewSat, an Australian satellite company, has signed a 10-year contract with a Middle Eastern telco for the provision of US$67.2 million worth of Jabiru satellite transmission capacity.

The Ka-band satellite capacity purchased will enable the customer, which wishes to remain nameless at this time, to provide high-speed internet and data services across several regions within the Middle East.

NewSat refrained from naming the customer, citing “commercial and competitive reasons”.

“We are seeing more and more demand for Ka-band satellite capacity across the Middle East for internet, voice and data services,” Adrian Ballintine, NewSat Founder and CEO said.

“Ka-band blends perfectly for this market and our new carrier-grade telecommunications customer sees the delivery of their internet and data services via Ka-band as a major competitive advantage.”

NewSat last week announced that it had commissioned a new satellite from Lockheed Martin. The vessel is slated to launch in 2014 with Arianespace, a French commercial space transportation company.
