Victoria rolls out real-time information for trains
The Victorian government has started rolling out real-time information on Melbourne’s train network for passengers using the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) mobile app.
Information is now available for almost all metropolitan stations, to provide passengers with up-to-date information about departure times, platform numbers and cancellations.
Real-time information is already available for trams and buses at a number of stations within the V/Line regional passenger train and coach network.
PTV is investigating the feasibility of rolling out real-time information across the regional train, coach and bus networks and at the small number of metropolitan stations that do not yet support it due to technological constraints.
Access to real-time information will be necessary in light of the significant disruption to train, tram and bus services expected as a result of the multiple major transport projects being carried out by the state government, including the construction of the $10.9 billion Metro Tunnel project.
“This is the next step in the smarter, more responsive and more coordinated public transport system we’re building,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.
“It gives passengers accurate, up-to-the-minute information so they can properly plan their journey and make informed decisions about how to get around. We’re delivering the major public transport projects our network needs and putting passengers first.”
