Equinix expands ME1 and SY4 data centres

Equinix is expanding its Australian footprint by adding capacity at its International Business Exchange data centres in Melbourne (ME1) and Sydney (SY4).

The $13.3 million investment in ME1 will add 375 new cabinets. Upon completion, which is scheduled for Q3 2018, the facility will have a total capacity of 1500 cabinets.

An investment of approximately $52.3 million has SY4’s capacity doubled from 1500 cabinets to 3000, and a total usable floor space of more than 12,000 square metres.

In December, Equinix announced its $1.035 billion acquisition of Metronode, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018.

The acquisition will add 10 data centre locations in Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane, bringing the Australian total to 15.
