IT leaders underestimate the enterprise network

IT leaders are failing to recognise the extent of the connection between enterprise networks and the employee experience, research released by HPE’s Aruba Networking suggests.

According to a global survey, only 55% of IT leaders fully appreciate the connection between the enterprise network and employees being able to do their jobs, as well as the connection between the network and talent attraction and retention.

Meanwhile only 43% of respondents reported that their network enables staff to work from anywhere, and just 34% agree that their network can deliver seamless connectivity. And despite increasing demand from employees, only 29% of respondents indicate that their network enables them to offer employees a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) service.

But at the same time, the survey found that 44% of IT leaders view the network primarily as a tool for digital transformation, while 33% see it playing a role in broader business transformation. Only 23% recognise the network merely for its functional connectivity.

HPE Aruba Networking CMO Sylvia Hooks said the findings nevertheless suggest that IT leaders underestimate what enterprise networks are capable of delivering.

“Given the prevalence and demand for flexible working, the lack of understanding around how the network can enhance employee experiences seems a particularly dangerous miss,” he said.

“The simple fact is that no one can do their job nowadays without the network. But, while organisations are recognising the network as a business-critical resource in enhancing their digital transformation journey, in today’s working environment this requirement goes way beyond offering connectivity — a more seamless, efficient, intelligent and securely connected experience is essential.”
