Databricks buys BladeBridge to bolster SQL offering
Data and AI company Databricks has acquired BladeBridge, a provider of AI-powered enterprise data warehouse migration solutions.
BladeBridge provides an automation solution for migrating from data warehouses including Snowflake, Redshift, and Teradata to Databricks SQL. The company is also a technology partner to system integrators including Accenture, Capgemini, Celebal Tech, Ness Digital and Tredence.
The merger between the companies will provide organisations migrating to Databricks with access to BladeBridge’s solution to automate code analysis and conversion, strengthening the Databricks SQL value proposition.
Databricks co-founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi said to date over 10,000 organisations have chosen Databricks SQL as a data warehouse option.
“As more and more companies choose Databricks as the foundation for an open, flexible data architecture, we want to make it easier than ever to move from legacy data warehouses to the Data Intelligence Platform,” he said. “By joining forces with the BladeBridge team, we can help every organisation accelerate their move to Databricks with significantly lower migration cost and effort.”
“At BladeBridge, we set out to solve frustrating challenges for companies looking to modernise their data stack, and today we’ve helped hundreds of organisations successfully migrate to cloud data platforms,” said Simon Eligulashvili, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of BladeBridge. “We are thrilled to join the Databricks team to continue our mission — to help companies reach their data modernisation goals faster and at a far greater scale.”
The announcement follows Databricks’ recent US$10 billion Series J funding round and the closure of an additional US$5.25 billion in debt financing. The capital raising has valued the company at US$62 billion.
